Crew Picks #2

In a fresh Crew Picks, some of the RC crew members selected new releases that stood out for them. This round sees Kofi The Unknown, Rochelle Jordan and Free Babyronia picked by our newest addition to the roster OJOO GYAL. Dig in.

OJOO GYAL

Free Babyronia – A Killer
Latest discovery while digging some noise/experimental weirdshit. Absolutely fell in love with Free Babyronia’s sounds. Out on the Japanese underground label AUN Mute.

Rochelle Jordan – COUNT IT
Taken from her genrefluid album PLAY WITH THE CHANGES, this track is a timecapsule to 90’s R&B in the best way possible – an homage to some of the greatest like Aaliyah (RIP). This one runs for fave album of the year.

Loyle Carner ft. Jordan Rakei – Ottolenghi
While this is a relatively older track, there is just something magical about Loyle Carner and his collaborations (e.g., Tom Misch, Jorja Smith) that has to be mentioned. Inspired by the famous chef Ottolenghi and while reading one of his books during a train ride the vibe and warm feeling in combination with Jordan Rakei is spot on. Loyle Carner actually has his own cooking school called Chilli Con Carner, helping teenagers with ADHD. A beautiful track where everything falls into place. Tip; watch the music video.

Daan

Papa Romeo – Yellow Magic Orchestra
Yellow Magic Orchestra is the debut single from Papa Romeo, a young five-piece band from Dublin. The track is inspired by the pioneering DIY electronica take on music production of the eponymous Japanese band. Good vibes guaranteed! Hope they can cross the Channel and enchant the Dutch festivals soon!

Kofi The Unknown – One For Motet
Kofi the Unknown, master riddim programmer and allround lovely human being. I’ve only known about his work for about a year and every release is ace. Really excited to see him release his work on a label that works closely with their artists: Wicked Wax. Being a bruk head myself, One for Motet truly hits the spot.
